Entry for:150 Years of Discovery: Emerging Research
1. Please provide a brief summary of your video and research.
Inter-Organisational middleware Systems (IOMS) are systems that sit in the middle of the B2B, and effectively enable business transactions to cross between partnering organisations. IOMS have well become critical in today’s business spectrum, and solutions offered in the market are gaining complexity at higher levels and frequencies. However, it still is a juvenile research domain. Building on years of frustration as a practitioner, I decided to embark on a PhD research to address the issue of legacy processes inside IOMS, in a standardised, adaptive, generalisable, manner. The speed of innovation in IOMS has made processes’ lifecycles shorter and their upgradability harder. The focus of my research is on the ‘Unupgradable’ legacy processes, which could no longer upgraded due to technical, resource, or management issues. The research’s outcome is a set of artefacts that have been implemented and validated in international organisations, and which have been published in 11 papers by the likes of IEEE and AMCIS. Amongst others, the research notably offers a framework for managing changes in IOMS; an adaptive, SOA-based, IOMS-specific architecture; and a set of roadmaps that address the issue of unupgradable legacy processes in IOMS. The video presents this research and its outcomes, and attempts to do so in a simplified context for the viewer.
